As many as 2% to 5% of children older than age five — most of whom are obese — are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and the condition seems to be most prevalent among Hispanic children, the AP/San Mateo Daily Journal reports.

The recent fire in the Goleta hills and the community meetings that have touched on volunteerism made me think that volunteering and helping others is something that doesn’t always come naturally. This emergency reminded me of a past experience that changed me forever.

A couple of months ago I asked some students in a cultural studies course if they knew anything about the Moody Park Riot of 1978. No one knew about the incident.
The problem was directly related to the death of a Vietnam veteran named Joe Campos Torres - the students didn’t know about him either.
